Who We Are

The Midland Roofing Company You Rely On

Dan Nicholas started Roofs by Nicholas of Midland in 1988 as a one-man operation. Today, with more than 30,000 roofs completed, we're still locally owned, and we're still who Midland, Odessa, and Big Spring homeowners call when hail hits or an aging roof starts to leak. Our crews know what West Texas sun, wind, and spring hailstorms do to a roof, and we build every roof to handle them.

We handle residential roofing from a few missing shingles to complete roof replacements. Local businesses trust us for commercial roofing and flat roof systems. As an Owens Corning Platinum Preferred Contractor, we install Class 4 impact-resistant shingles built to stand up to West Texas hail. Whether you need a repair or a full replacement, we'll tell you plainly what your roof needs.

ABOUT US

About Roofs by Nicholas

Roofs by Nicholas of Midland has served Midland, Odessa, Big Spring, and the surrounding Permian Basin communities since 1988. Midland Reporter-Telegram readers have voted us Gold for Best Roofing Company every year since 2018, and NewsWest 9 named us Best of the Basin in 2025. Every project starts with a free estimate. We inspect every slope, photograph what we find, and explain in plain terms what your roof needs and why. If we find damaged decking under the old roof, we replace it before the new one goes on. On residential shingle roofs, our workmanship warranty covers the installation, and Owens Corning's manufacturer warranty covers the materials.

Beyond shingles, we install standing seam and stone-coated steel roofs on homes and businesses. For retail, office, and warehouse buildings, we also install TPO, EPDM, and built-up flat roofs, and we schedule work around your business hours so you can stay open while we're on the roof. We also offer commercial roof maintenance plans customized to each building, so small problems get caught before they become leaks or an early replacement.

Thinking about solar? We partner with Permian Solar so your roof and panels are planned together, which helps you avoid pulling panels off later for a roof replacement.

Hail and Wind Damage Repair in Midland

Hail can bruise shingles and knock granules loose, and high winds can lift shingles and loosen flashing. That damage often isn't visible from the ground, but left alone, it turns into leaks, rotted decking, and a bigger repair bill.

After a storm, we check every slope, along with the gutters, vents, and flashing, and tell you honestly whether you need a repair or a replacement. If water is already getting in, we make emergency repairs to stop the leak. If you're filing a claim, we photograph the damage, give you a detailed written estimate, and can meet your adjuster on-site. Your claim and settlement are between you and your insurer. Call us 24/7 for a free estimate.

Roof Repair and Replacement Questions in Midland

  • How long does a roof replacement take in Midland?

Most residential replacements take one to two days once work begins. Larger homes, steep or complex roofs, and metal or commercial projects can take longer. If we find damaged decking under the old shingles, we'll replace it before the new roof goes on, which can add time. After a major hailstorm, demand across the Permian Basin can push out start dates, so we'll give you a realistic schedule up front and keep you updated until the job is finished.

  • Are Class 4 shingles worth it in West Texas?

For most homeowners in the Permian Basin, yes. Class 4 is the highest rating under the UL 2218 impact test, in which a 2-inch steel ball is dropped onto the shingle and the shingle must not crack. Class 4 shingles hold up much better against the hail we see every spring than standard shingles do. Many Texas insurers also offer premium discounts for Class 4 roofs, which can offset some of the higher upfront cost over time. Ask your agent what your policy offers. No shingle is hail-proof, but a Class 4 roof gives you the best chance of getting through the next storm without another claim.

  • How often should I have my roof inspected?

Once a year, ideally in early spring before hail season. If a major hail or wind storm hits, schedule an extra inspection right after. West Texas hail can bruise shingles without leaving damage you can see from the ground, and small problems caught early cost less to fix. We offer free estimates.

  • Will you help with my insurance claim?

Yes. We inspect your roof, photograph the hail or wind damage, and give you a detailed written estimate you can share with your insurance company. If you'd like, we'll meet your adjuster on-site to walk the roof and show what we found. Under Texas law, a roofing contractor can't negotiate your claim or act as your adjuster, and no contractor can waive or cover your deductible. Your claim and settlement are between you and your insurer. Our job is to document the damage accurately and do the work right.

  • How do I know if I need a repair or a full replacement?

It depends on the age of your roof, the extent of the damage, and how much of the roof is affected. Isolated hail or wind damage on a roof under 15 years old is often repairable. Widespread damage, granule loss, or a roof nearing the end of its expected lifespan usually points to replacement. A free estimate is the fastest way to know for sure.

  • Do you offer financing for roof repairs or replacement?

Yes, we partner with Wisetack to offer flexible financing options so unexpected roofing costs don't have to be a barrier to protecting your home.
