Metal Roofing

Standing seam and stone-coated steel roofs that stand up to West Texas hail, wind, and sun for decades. Metal needs very little upkeep and is a strong fit for homes, shops, and barns.

McCamey's Roofer Since 1988

Our trucks reach McCamey in about an hour and a half. Depending on the job, they either head south on State Highway 349 to Rankin and pick up US 67 west, or they go through Odessa and Crane on US 385. Both routes cross a lot of the same oil and ranch country we've worked in since 1988. That was the year Dan Nicholas founded Roofs by Nicholas in Midland, starting as a one-man crew. Now, with more than 30,000 roofs completed, we serve McCamey and the towns around it, including Rankin, Crane, and Iraan. Call us for a free inspection, and we'll give you an honest look at what your roof needs.

McCamey is known as the Wind Energy Capital of Texas for good reason: the wind here is steady and strong. That's great for turbines and hard on roofs. Gusts lift shingle tabs, loosen ridge caps, and work at flashing until it leaks. Spring storms can also bring hail. If you think your roof has been damaged, we'll inspect it from top to bottom. We'll photograph the damage and give you a written estimate you can share with your insurer, and we can meet your adjuster on-site if you'd like. Your claim is between you and your insurance company, but you'll have what you need to talk with them. If the wind or hail opened up your roof, we can help get exposed areas tarped.

Roofing in McCamey: the local picture

McCamey sits on US 67 in Upton County, about five miles east of the Pecos River and an hour and a half from our Midland office. The 2020 census counted 1,831 people and 868 homes, and the median house here was built in 1966. Roughly half the homes in the 79752 ZIP date from before 1960, a legacy of the 1926 oil boom, with a second cluster from the 1980s. Many of those older roofs have been re-covered more than once, so we check decking carefully before we quote. About three in four homes are owner-occupied.

The Texas House named McCamey the Wind Energy Capital of Texas in 2001, and the 214 turbines on King Mountain northeast of town are there for a reason. On March 28, 2017, straight-line winds estimated at 80 to 100 mph snapped eight power poles along King Mountain Road. Hail comes too: on May 25, 2019, spotters measured hail from 1 to 2.5 inches in town, and 1.75-inch hail fell again on June 23, 2023. On April 19, 2025, hail reached 1.5 inches two miles south of town. We cover the whole McCamey ISD area, out FM 305 and FM 1901 toward Bakersfield, and north on US 385 toward Crane.

Everything we install in Midland we install in McCamey: hail and storm damage repair, full roof replacement, Class 4 impact-resistant shingles, standing seam and stone-coated steel metal roofing, tile, slate and wood shake, and commercial systems including TPO, PVC, EPDM, modified bitumen, built-up and coatings. We also handle seamless gutters, skylights, non-structural chimney repairs such as flashing and caps, and solar-ready roofing with our partner Permian Solar. Pricing is by the square foot of roof area and we quote it in writing before any work starts.

Wind-Ready Roofs for McCamey Homes, Shops, and Ranch Buildings

McCamey started as an oil boomtown in the 1920s and has since become known for the wind farms built around it. Between the oil field, the wind industry, and area ranches, there are plenty of homes, metal shops, and work buildings to keep up. Because wind is such a big factor here, roof choice matters. Class 4 impact-resistant shingles are what most of our residential customers pick. Standing seam metal and stone-coated steel are also strong options for both homes and outbuildings. For commercial buildings with flat or low-slope roofs, we install and repair TPO, EPDM, built-up, and metal systems.

McCamey Roofing Questions

  • What's the best roof for a home in windy McCamey?

Wind, not hail, drives most of the roof decisions here. For shingles, we recommend a product with a high wind rating, installed with the manufacturer's high-wind nailing pattern and starter strips sealed at every edge. Standing seam metal resists uplift best because its fasteners are hidden. We price both side by side on the free estimate.

  • How much hail does McCamey actually get?

Enough to matter. The National Weather Service recorded hail up to 2.5 inches in McCamey on May 25, 2019, 1.75 inches on June 23, 2023, and 1 to 1.5 inches in April 2025. Class 4 impact-resistant shingles are rated for exactly that, and many insurers discount the premium for them.

  • Do you work on metal shops and buildings outside McCamey?

Yes. Standing seam and stone-coated steel for shops, barns and ranch outbuildings off FM 305, FM 1901 and US 385 are a regular part of our Upton County work, along with TPO, PVC and modified bitumen on commercial buildings in town.

  • Can you finance a new roof in McCamey?

Yes. We offer financing through Wisetack. You can prequalify online in a few minutes without affecting your credit score, and the terms are shown before you commit.

  • Do I need a City of McCamey permit to replace my roof?

We have not found a published re-roof permit requirement for McCamey, and most of the small towns we serve don't require one. We confirm with City Hall at 207 E 6th St before we start, and if a permit is needed we pull it.

  • Is McCamey too far for you to come out?

No. McCamey is about an hour and a half down SH 349 and US 67 from Midland, and we also serve Rankin, Crane, Iraan and Big Lake, so we are in Upton County often. We schedule out-of-town jobs so the crew and materials arrive together.

  • My roof is from the 1950s or 60s. Does that change the job?

Often. Older McCamey homes may have more than one layer of shingles, plank decking with gaps, or no drip edge. We tear off to the deck, replace damaged boards at a per-sheet price we quote up front, and install synthetic underlayment and ice-and-water shield in the valleys before the new roof goes on.

  • What warranty do I get?

Two: our written workmanship warranty, up to 1 year on repairs and up to 5 years on full replacements, and the manufacturer's material warranty. As an Owens Corning Platinum Preferred Contractor and CertainTeed ShingleMaster, we can offer both manufacturers' extended warranties.

Nearby towns we also serve: Rankin, Crane, Iraan, Fort Stockton, and Big Lake.
