Our Service
Roof Repair and Replacement Since 1988
Roofs by Nicholas of Midland has been roofing homes in Midland, Odessa, and Big Spring since 1988, with more than 30,000 roofs completed across the Permian Basin. We handle everything from a few missing shingles to complete roof replacements, and Midland Reporter-Telegram readers have voted us Gold for Best Roofing Company every year since 2018.
Live in Odessa? See our Odessa roofing company page for local reviews, prices, and jobs across Ector County.
Every job starts with a free inspection and written estimate. We check every slope, photograph what we find, and explain what your roof needs and why. If we find damaged decking under the old roof, we replace it before the new one goes on. Wondering how building codes affect a re-roof? Read what you should know about Texas roofing codes.
As an Owens Corning Platinum Preferred Contractor, we install Class 4 impact-resistant shingles built to handle West Texas hail. Our workmanship warranty covers the installation, and Owens Corning’s manufacturer warranty covers the materials.
Residential Roofing Services
Roof Repair
Missing shingles, leaks around vents and chimneys, lifted flashing, and
hail or wind damage. We find the source of the problem, fix it, and tell you plainly whether a repair is enough or the roof is near the end of its life. If water is already getting in, we’ll tarp or seal the area as soon as it’s safe, then schedule the permanent repair.
Roof Replacement
When repairs no longer make sense, we tear the old roof down to the decking, replace any damaged boards, and install new underlayment and your choice of shingles or metal. Most homes take one to two days from tear-off to finish. If your gutters are worn out, we can install new seamless gutters at the same time.
Roof Inspections
We recommend an inspection once a year, ideally in early spring before hail season, and again after any major hail or wind storm. We inspect every slope, photograph any damage, and give you a free written estimate.
Chimney Flashing and Repair
Many roof leaks start where the chimney meets the roof. We replace worn step flashing and counter-flashing, add a cricket behind wide chimneys so water flows around them instead of pooling, install chimney caps, and seal cracked crowns. We do non-structural chimney work only. If the masonry itself is failing, we’ll tell you so you can call a mason.
Signs Your Roof Needs Repair or Replacement
Watch for these warning signs:
- Missing, cracked, curled, or bruised shingles, especially after a hailstorm
- Cracked, slipped, or missing tiles, slates, or shakes
- Granules collecting in gutters or at the bottom of downspouts
- Water stains on ceilings or in the attic
- Leaks around vents, chimneys, or skylights
- Sagging spots along the roofline
- A roof that’s 20 to 30 years old, or one that needs repairs more and more often
West Texas hail can damage shingles without leaving anything you’d notice from the ground. If a storm has passed through or you’ve spotted any of these signs, call 432-520-7348 to schedule a free estimate. We serve Midland, Odessa, Big Spring, and the surrounding Permian Basin.
Roofing Materials for West Texas Homes
Class 4 Impact-Resistant Shingles
The highest rating under the UL 2218 hail test, and the most popular choice for our customers. Many insurers offer premium discounts for Class 4 roofs, so ask your agent.
See shingle roofing.
Architectural Shingles
Dimensional asphalt shingles that cost less up front than Class 4 and come in a wide range of Owens Corning colors and styles. They give your home a clean, layered look and hold up well to everyday West Texas sun and wind. They don’t carry a Class 4 impact rating, so we’ll compare the two for your home and budget during your free estimate.
Standing Seam Metal
Holds up to hail, wind, and sun for decades with very little upkeep. The panels lock together along raised seams with concealed fasteners, so there are no exposed screws to back out or leak over time. Metal also reflects much of the summer sun, which can help keep your attic cooler. See metal roofing.
Tile Roofing
Clay and concrete tile handle West Texas sun and heat well and can last for decades. Tile is heavy, so we check that your roof framing can carry it before we quote a new tile roof. We also replace cracked or hail-broken tiles and reset slipped ones.
Slate Roofing
Natural slate is one of the longest-lasting roofs you can put on a home. We install new slate and repair existing slate roofs, including replacing broken pieces and fixing the flashing around them. Like tile, slate needs framing that can carry its weight, and we check for that first.
Wood Shake Roofing
Cedar shake gives a home a natural, rustic look. We install new shake roofs and repair existing ones, including split or missing shakes and worn flashing. Before you choose shake, check with your insurer and HOA, since some limit wood roofs.
Planning to add solar? We partner with Permian Solar so your roof and panels are planned together, which helps you avoid pulling panels off later for a roof replacement.
Not sure which option fits your home and budget? We’ll walk you through it during your free estimate. Financing is available through
Wisetack.

How Much Does a New Roof Cost in Midland?
Every roof is quoted after we inspect it, but here’s where most projects start. Prices are per square foot of roof area (which is larger than your home’s floor space) and include tearing off and hauling away the old roof:
- Asphalt shingles: from $3.75 per sq ft
- Class 4 impact-resistant shingles: from $5.00 per sq ft
- Metal (exposed-fastener or stone-coated): from $6.50 per sq ft
- Standing seam metal: from about $10.50 per sq ft
Your final price depends on roof size, pitch, layers to remove, decking repairs, and the products you choose. Ask about financing through Wisetack.
Residential Roofing FAQs
How long does a residential roof replacement take?
Most homes take one to two days once work begins. Larger or steeper roofs, metal roofs, and jobs with a lot of damaged decking can take longer. After a major hailstorm, demand across the Permian Basin can push out start dates, so we’ll give you a realistic schedule up front.
Do you install Class 4 impact-resistant shingles?
Yes, and most of our residential customers choose them. Class 4 is the highest rating under the UL 2218 impact test. No shingle is hail-proof, but Class 4 shingles hold up much better against West Texas hail than standard shingles, and many insurers offer a premium discount for them. Ask your agent what your policy offers.
What happens if you find damaged decking?
We replace it before the new roof goes on. Installing new shingles over soft or rotted decking shortens the life of the roof and can cause leaks. We’ll show you what we found and what it adds to the job before we replace it.
What warranty comes with a new roof?
Our workmanship warranty covers roof replacements for up to 5 years, and Owens Corning’s manufacturer warranty covers the shingles and other materials. We’ll go over the terms with you before work starts.
Can you repair just part of my roof?
Often, yes. Isolated hail or wind damage on a younger roof is usually repairable. Matching older shingles exactly isn’t always possible, and widespread damage or a roof near the end of its life usually makes replacement the better value. A free estimate is the fastest way to know.
Do you install tile, slate, or wood shake roofs?
Yes. Besides shingles and metal, we install and repair clay and concrete tile, natural slate, and cedar shake. Tile and slate are heavy, so we check your roof framing before quoting either one. During your free estimate, we’ll go over the cost, weight, and upkeep of each option.
Do you repair chimneys?
We handle the parts of a chimney that keep water out: step flashing and counter-flashing, crickets, caps, and crown sealing. We don’t rebuild masonry or repair structural cracks. If your chimney needs that, we’ll tell you during the inspection.
